White Lies to play NorthSide
Synth-rock lovers will be well and happy when White Lies step on stage at next year’s NorthSide. Along with the Brits, the legendary The Smiths guitarist, Johnny Marr, as well as strong Danish names in the form of Hans Philip, Clara and Folkeklubben are added to next year’s poster.
With the releases “To Lose My Life…” and “Ritual”, British White Lies have a solid post-punk hold on the Danes. Earlier this year, the group released their fifth studio album “FIVE”, and the desire to see the trio in Ådalen is alive and well again. White Lies, with Harry McVeigh in front, is known for their voluminous lyric universe where neither love nor death walk free on huge numbers like “Farewell To The Fairground”, “Bigger Than Us” and “There Goes Our Love Again”, but also on easily digestible pop-inspired tunes such as “Hold Back Your Love” and “Time To Give”.
White Lies will play Friday, June 5
Since The Smiths disbanded in 1987, legendary guitarist and songwriter, Johnny Marr, has lived a laid-back existence until the release of his first solo album, “The Messenger,” in 2013. Marr is guaranteed to deliver solid shows, where both The Smiths’ and Marr’s own tunes are distributed generously.
Johnny Marr will play Saturday, June 6
In addition to international stars, NorthSide also means room for and eye for the biggest Danish acts. Therefore, the booking of former Ukendt Kunstner vocalist and now solo artist Hans Philip is completely obvious for next year’s festival. Hans Philip released his first solo album “Forevigt” in March, which hit both the audience and the reviewers right where it all comes together. The record holds hits like “Siger Ingenting” and “Dagdrøm [1]” and got a staggering six star review in the music magazine Gaffa.
Hans Philip will play Friday, June 5
19-year-old Aarhus-based and born Clara, who is the mastermind behind hits like “Crazy” and “What They Say”, and who was just named “New Danish Name of the Year” at the Danish Music Awards 2019 can also be experienced at next year’s NorthSide. Clara’s sound is bombastic and international, and you’ll find plenty of raw girlpower attitude on hits like “Suffocating”, “Good To You” and “Can’t Fall Asleep”.
Clara will play Saturday, June 6
The trio behind “Fedterøv”, Folkeklubben, is also added to the musical lineup. Folkeklubben’s lyrics and melodies are delivered with sass and poetic excess, and are truly done justice when played in a live setting. The trio’s latest album, “Sort Tulipan”, from 2018, offered hits such as “But Not Yet a Winter” and “Flaming Hearts” – not to forget the title track “Sort Tulipan”.
Folkeklubben will play Friday, June 5
NorthSide 2020 takes place in Ådalen, near Aarhus, 4-6 June 2020.
