One small step for man, one giant leap for Weezerkind.
Although 2020 wasn’t the year Weezer visited NorthSide due to the pandemic, they’re finally back and ready to take you on a nostalgic journey. Since the 1990s, Weezer has left their mark on the international rock scene by quickly distinguishing themselves from the trends of the time with their clean-cut style and melodic power pop, bedazzled with fuzz guitars.
The journey began with the release of their self-titled debut album in 1994, better known as the Blue Album. The album was a massive success, and with hits like “Buddy Holly”, “Say It Ain’t So”, and “Undone – The Sweater Song”, they secured their place on the musical map. Two years later, the band released Pinkerton, a darker and rawer album that was initially met with mixed reviews but has since gained cult status and is today regarded as one of the most significant albums of the 1990s.
After a four-year hiatus, Weezer returned stronger than ever and, since their formation in 1992, have released a total of 14 studio albums. Most recently, in 2022, the band completed their ambitious tetralogy SZNZ, consisting of four interconnected albums: Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. Even though the ’90s are long gone, Weezer continues to sound fresh and vital, with lyrics that seamlessly blend nostalgia with a modern touch.
With the 30th anniversary of the Blue Album this year, one might think Weezer has become a relic of the past, but they continue to prove their relevance on the alternative rock scene. With their melodic sound and ability to connect with new generations of listeners, they remain iconic in the universe of rock.
