The two critically acclaimed restaurants join together for an ambitious new restaurant with a focus on communal eating, vegetables and social sustainability

In June you can experience New Order, Mark Ronson, Tame Impala, Major Lazer and Bon Iver from the stages in Ådalen in Aarhus. But as something new this year, in between the concert experiences, you can also explore a whole new initiative at NorthSide, where you can be pampered with a culinary and social experience of world-class quality.

For the first time, the two Aarhus restaurants Hærværk (Bib Gourmand 2019) and Frederiksgade 42 (Michelin Plate 2019) have joined forces, and the result is a new eatery on NorthSide, which brings together the best of two of the city’s most prominent restaurants. The large restaurant on two floors at the top of the hill in Ådalen will serve the festival’s VIP guests on the 1st floor, and the ground floor will be open to everyone. This part of the restaurant will offer three rounds of communal dining at long tables per day, and when the kitchen closes, the room is converted into an exciting new bar.

The idea for the new collaboration between two of Aarhus’ leading restaurants came from the owner of Frederiksgade 42, Christian Bøjlund, who wanted to work with his visions for a sustainable food culture at a festival that shares his values:

– The most important thing for us is to be able to offer Aarhus food of high quality, where ethics and sustainability are in place. It applies daily, and we are pleased to now be able to offer the same thing together with Hærværk at NorthSide, says Christian Bøjlund.

The two chefs’ visions have a direct influence on the composition of the menu, which will follow Frederiksgade’s 80/20 rule (ie 80% vegetables and 20% meat or fish). The primarily vegetable-based menu focuses on local produce such as organic chickens from Gothenburg, all dishes can be made vegetarian, and nothing on the menu will contain pork or nuts (“so everyone can join in”).

The restaurant Hærværk & Frederiksgade 42 is open all day every day during NorthSide 2019, and after the last servings the bar on the ground floor will be open from 9.00 pm to 02.30 am.
