Since 2013, Kevin Morby has marked himself as one of the most productive and innovative artists on the American indie- and folkrock scene. With the release of his debut record Harlem River, he kicked off his musical journey through America by honoring the city of New York. Since then, his music has taken us all around the country, inspired by the places he’s visited throughout his life and professional career.
Thus, his seventh album This Is A Photograph from 2022 was a return to his childhood home of Kansas City as well as a story of his trip further south to Memphis.
Most recently, his long-time dream of writing a film score was realized with the release of his 2023 soundtrack-album Music From Montana Story.
Morby’s music is kind of like the love child between the American indierock of the 2010s and the old roots- and Americana traditions – between legends like Bob Dylan, Patti Smith and Lou Reed and modern voices like Angel Olsen and Kurt Vile.
There’s a melancholy and slight nostalgia in his sound as well as a strong sense of the world around him and the society he’s part of, with all its absurdity and hope.
Kevin Morby is an experienced and praised live performer and he’s been a returning artist in Denmark where he plays to sold out venues.
Now, NorthSide gets the honor of Kevin Morby’s warm soundscapes and personal songwriting when he returns to Aarhus.
Kevin Morby will play Friday June 2 at NorthSide 2023.
