The Captain was classically trained from an early age. And grew up part of live ska, reggae, punk, swing, folk and classical bands, but when he found his love for electronic music, Captain Flatcap was born. Given his musical past, he was inspired to include recorded instruments in his production and live performances.
The Captain states his influences has no limitations. Everything he listen to helps to form his style, in that any specific aspect of a piece of music can inspire him, whether it’s beats, synths, harmonies, melodies, structure, production techniques, or indeed anything. Some of his favorite artists include The Cat Empire, Bonobo, Infected Mushroom, Opiuo, Koan Sound and James Blake.
